We are currently working on choosing a charity for next year and will update this when that decision has been make.
Kirk Riessen (1968-2017)
Gamicon Cobalt’s charity, The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, was dedicated to Gamicon’s longtime friend, Kirk Riessen, who passed away June 2017 from cancer. Kirk was an avid board gamer and dedicated a lot of his time and energy over the past few years to helping make Gamicon a success. Many of us in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City gaming communities became friends with Kirk and his adorable bichon frise, Buddy, who faithfully sat under Kirk’s chair through hours of gaming. Kirk frequented the Hobby Corner Thursday game nights and loved playing co-operative games like XCOM and Zombicide: and anything related to Firefly. Kirk’s friendly attitude, keen gaming strategy, and steadfast willingness to help his friends will be sadly missed.
